The boys in Stirling Says have really beefed up their sound and cranked the amps and feedback since we last heard from them on their split 7" with Katie The Pest. And we think this added punch serves them so well! Balboa has such an awesomely raw and free wheeling guitar driven sound, reminding us of that awesome intersection of the late '80s SST scene (Dinosaur Jr, Leaving Trains, Screaming Trees, Das Damen) and the early beginnings of the Sub Pop roster (Eric's Trip, Seaweed, Sebadoh) and that sound is so totally refreshing right now! So much of the recent output of guitar driven rock seems to be so centered on its lo-fi/outsider aesthetic, we've been missing what it feels like to just have a great short two minute song hit you in the gut with a wall of guitars and soaring vocals. This is the kind of record perfect for roadtrips as the songs on Balboa really do flow with a never-ending summer charm.

We start taking pre order orders of the NADJA / OVO the life and death of a wasp LP

Over the last few dogs days of summer 2008, Italy’s OvO and Canada’s Nadja, got together in their adoptive city of Berlin at Einstürzende Neubauten’s andereBaustelle Studio. With engineer Boris Wilsdorf at the board, each duo began two songs and had the other duo finish them, Bruno and Stefania adding heavy, pounding rhythms and harsh, eerie vocals to Aidan and Leah’s ambient textures and bass-heavy drones.

The album, while still heavy and still retaining signature sounds of both groups, turned out groovier and mellower than either band expected. But this mellowness gives the songs a greater sense of presence and allows for the intricacies and nuances of each individual’s contributions to be properly heard. With a final mastering by James Plotkin, this album sounds simultaneously harsh and lush, aggressive and warm.

Having coffee after the sessions in the back garden, a wasp drugged on sugar flew into Leah’s coffee cup and drowned itself, traumatizing everyone at the table.

we got some news. The HANNA HIRSCH tala svart LP is finally out and ready to go. I think its one of the best punk records that

Tala Svart takes the bands powerful pop sensibility to total perfection over 14 tracks. Self described as "awkward Buzzcocks",
Hanna Hirsch continues to dig deep into the underground popular culture of the last 30 years or so, here creating a
minor masterpiece of beautiful powerpop. All 14 tracks are A-side single material. Life elevating and absolutely necessary music.
Mastered by John Golden (Sonic Youth, Superchunk etc).

We also gonna repress the COMADRE a wolf ticket 12" pretty soon - cause we are down to our last copies. Same goes for the
DROWNING WITH OUR ANCHORS LP.

Christian DeRoeck spent most of the past decade writing, touring & recording with the Brooklyn indie/punk band Meneguar. In late 2006, He and bandmate Jeremy Earl decided to combine their bedroom recordings and release them together, as Woods. They recorded two albums together and toured the US and Europe. In early 2008, for several reasons, Christian left both bands.

He spent the summer of 2008 working as a carpenter in eastern Long Island. Inhabiting a tiny basement room, he began working on the songs that shape On The Knife. In the fall he moved back to Brooklyn and teamed up with his old friend, multi-instrumentalist Dylan Edrich (Chain and the Gang), and Little Gold was born.

Recorded to tape at Emandee Studio in Brooklyn, On the Knife is a deeply personal take on love and loss, and was very much shaped by Christian’s departure from his previous bands. Like his earlier work with Woods, the songwriting is earnest, and of course there are a few indulgent headphone tracks as well.

Now joined by stand-up drummer Patty Conway, Little Gold has begun to incorporate more improvisational and psychedelic sounds into their mellow, country-rock oeuvre, and in the process are becoming a notable live act around NYC.

Hi, just came back from tour w/ Graf Orlock & Ghostlimb. 11.000km later we are back home and thanks so much to everyone that made this tour amazing. We had such a blast every minute. Thank you!!

Now I have 4 more weeks before we hit the road again w/ ZANN & MOUTHBREATHER. Since my harddisk crashed last week - I lost some files/ emails etc - so if someone is involved in booking a show for that tour - please write me an email. Thanks a lot.

We got the test press for the CLOAK & DAGGER tour 7“ and they sound great. Matt is screen printing the covers at the moment – so I hope we have those available soon. No pre order for that. 500 will be made and they will be available this September from the band, from us and various distros. NO IMPORTANT/ TRADES etc to the USA - single orders are ok though. We will let you know when they are available

Unfortunatly the testpress for the Mouthbreather 10“ sounds llike shit and we have to get new ones. This is the first time that ever happend to me. We got the 2nd batch of testpresses for the that and they sound good. No pre other for this on also - 500 on plain black vinyl. Siqq
The artwork and inlay is done and it looks great. (done by Brandon Peck) So hopefully everything will be done for the Mouthbreather & Zann september tour. There is will be also a limited tape by Brandon Peck on Gafas del Rigor Tapes for the tour.

ADAGIO830 is also proud to announce a new release – which came kinda unexpected – but we couldn’t say No. We gonna release the debut LP by LITTLE GOLD from NYC – which is Christian Deroeck (formerly in Meneguar & the Woods) and friends and it’s some of the best stuff we ever heard.

Since they go on tour in September we have to rush that release which delays the HANNA HIRSCH LP & the CHINO HORDE discography DLP a bit. Sorry ... ts time for another update,
the COMADRE a wolf ticket 12" & the "burn your bones" LP / CD/ DVD are out now for a couple days and all pre orders
are shipped. Thanx so much for your patience. But I think it has been worth waiting ...
We also got the NADJA 12" in (which is a split label release w/ Vendetta) and its going super fast. We are down to our
last copies. - so crap your copy asap. Artwork is done by our friend HLG.

We also started the pre order for the TRAINWRECK LP and confirmed the testpressings. After a couple problems w/ the
artwork we should have the records finally next week and then start shipping pre orders. The CD version will out a bit later. Keep your eyes pealed.

Up next will be the HANNA HIRSCH 12", the CHINO HORDE discography DLP and the MOUTHBREATHER 10" and two unexpected releases. There will be a 7" from ADORNO on Adagio830 and this gonna be a split release w/ PurePainSugar and a
CLOAK & DAGGER tour 7" w/ screenprinted covers. Zann will play a couple shows w/ them in September and we hope to have
this one release in July / August.

'Clinging To The Edge Of The Sky' sees Nadja taking a new (and unexpected) direction. It is not the Nadja most people are used to. It is a more scaled down, minimalistic and naked sound. There is almost a total lack of distortion, and it is not as heavy or noisy as most of their earlier releases. One song, spanning 16 minutes, takes you on a sad and slow journey. Yep - we got some news for you. Since some people got worried - we wanted to let you know that the new TRAINWRECK LP is already at the plant since last week and I hope we have news about that record soon. There have been some little issues with the artwork which have to get solved on Monday. But its all in the works. We keep our fingers crossed that record will be out in time for the east coast dates w/ Comadre ... so check those two bands if live there and buy their new awesome records. We keep you posted w/ dates and stuff like that

The COMADRE a wolf ticket 12" got a bit delayed ( we hope to have the records here in May10th at the latest - so the band have them for the release show on May 15th). the same goes for the new GRAF ORLOCK destination time today LP and teh COMADRE burn your bones LP repress (that comes w/ a CD and DVD - some pre orders are still left at the bisaufmesser.com/store) - it seems like every pressing plant is over worked at the moment. It got kinda rare those days if it comes to bands that have the heart on the right place. The kids from Fargo def have their heart in the right spot. FARGO played pissed angry Hardcore that reminds me a lot old 90ies stuff w/ a dirty fucked up raw production combined w/ a lot emotion that sometimes reminds me on bands like Uranus and shit like that. This is their first release and I guess not the last one. This 7" comes on brownish vinyl w/ a nice booklet, a sticker and is limited to 300 copies. Its a split release between ADAGIO830, STILL LEBEN & COBRETTI – even if it is no important – Fargo featuring kids from Mersault

Folks. the FIRE TEAM CHARLIE 10" just arrived at our headquarter and people that didn't ordered their copy yet - should go for it. Cause its sooo awesome. We have a handful pre orders left (check the bisaufsmesser.com/store) ...
500 got pressed and 100 copies came/ come on silverish vinyl.

But we have some more news. We approved the test press for the 4way split (ghostlimb, zann, trainwreck & perth express) and also gave our ok to the proofs from the printer. I I hope we have a shipping date soon and then we start taking pre orders. I can tell you this record gonna look and sound so awesome.

Next in line in the ORDINATION OF AARON discography DLP ... we have all files ready and the record goes in the plant next week. FINALLY. More updates on that soon. I just know I will spent the christmas eve w/ friend folding and cutting inlays. hahaha

The DROWING w/ OUR ANCHORS LP get mastered right now at SAE (quarterstick, thrill jockey .. etc) and I hope we can send it to the plant in december as well. Adam Hunt takes care of the layout and I just got the rough mix. I can tell you - this record takes you back to the 90ies and will not leave your turntable for ages. (make sure to see them next year in EUROPE w/ GODS & QUEENS on their euro tour!)

We also confirmed a 10" for TRAINWRECK (which should be out in APRIL 09), a new 12" for COMADRE (which also should be out in April/ May 09) and a re issue of the burn your bones LP, then a 7" for our friends in FARGO (whch hopefully comes out in January 09) and a 12" for STERLING (which is another band from San Francisco and if you like old DINOSAUR JR etc - this is just awesome. Ex funeral diner - which doesn't matter. hahaha)
the KHERE 12" is still on the map - teh artwork is just not done yet.

... we are back from the ZANN US tour and we can be just thankful to all the people that helped us out w/ a show and gave us a place to stay - special thanks to GRAF ORLOCK for all their work setting up the tour, gave us their VAN and Backline and made this trip awesome. THANK YOU

We also got the preview for teh 4way split LP w/ ZANN/ GHOSTLIMB/ PERTH EXPRESS & TRAINWRECK and it looks great. Adam Hunt did another awesome job and I guess we can ship everything to the pressing plant in the next days.

Brand new is our first split release w/ Robotic Empire - which is the debut full lenght lp by GODS & QUEENS. GODS & QUEENS is a three piece band from Brooklyn/Philadelphia who tried in vain to blatantly steal riffs and song patterns from some of their favorite bands (like HOOVER, LUNGFISH, JUNE OF 44, SPACEMAN 3 and the like)... but failed in every attempt. Instead here are seven songs that resemble nothing of who or what they were intended to be. A few have said it sounds like a low rent, super depressed version of FUGAZI, or QUICKSAND with out the start stop timing." What boils down to is that GODS & QUEENS is playing an abnormally dark blend of indie/shoegazer/whatever-people-want-to-call-it. If you care its people from LickGoldenSky, Versoma etc etc ... We have the vinyl availabe in the next days.

Drowing w/ Our Anchors decided to re record the songs for the upcoming full length - so it get a bit delayed. But I hope we have it out in december 09. I just can tell you the new songs are KILLER.

We got all the stuff for the ORDINATION OF AARON discography together and I guess we gonna ship it to the plant by the end of october. There is alot of stuff to do w/ it - but it will look amazing!!!

Also Constantine Sankathi got most of the stuff together - so its all in progress. The same for teh CHINO HORDE discography LP - which will get remastered etc ... More news later.

FireTeamCharlie sent their recordings and artwork to us ... so if we are lucky it will be ready for christmas ;) Mouthbreather gonna record early spring for a 12" on ADAGIO830 ... and then they will tour europe in September 09 w/ ZANN in europe.

While speaking of touring - GODS & QUEENS and DROWING WITH OUR ANCHORS will be on tour in Europe in APRIL 09

The untitled seven-song album was recorded by Jason LaFarge at Seizures Palace and mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East. This will see an October 14th street date as a 12"+CD (both formats together) released by Robotic Empire in North America and Adagio830 in Europe. A cassette version will also be available from Dead Format Cassettes, and digital downloads will be available on iTunes, etc.

Happiness from Sweden are sharing not just members w/ Tar Feathers - they also share the passion for good pop songs. Those Happiness songs remind me a lot on early Cure stuff. The songs are strong and deep. I hope there will be more soon.

Pygmy Lush, whose members have cut their teeth in some of Northern Virginia's most influential hardcore bands of the last decade including Pg.99, Majority Rule, Malady, City of Caterpillar and Crestfallen, return with their much anticipated second full-length, Mount Hope. Pygmy Lush formed in the spring of 2005 on the very day two of their previous bands, Malady and Mannequin broke up. They started out by carrying on much of the same ferocity of their previous endeavors but a massive change was afoot. Somewhere in their early practices they had started four-tracking several quieter songs with acoustic guitars and minimal percussion. Their first record, Bitter River (Robotic Empire), was noise-punk tracks mixed in with some of the quieter songs. Those more restrained songs, which had at first been an aside, began to over take the set. Mike Taylor explains, "We liked the quiet stuff so much that we decided that our next plan was to write an entire quiet album." The sound suites them. The songs feel haunted. Still filled to the brim with a sense of abandon, only here they have put down their angst for introspection, traded their aggression for a slow grit. Not bad for a bunch of punks. Taylor continues, "We have not stopped playing or touring and we are all sick in the fucking head with music." It shows.

Mount Hope was recorded at Godcity by Kurt Ballou (Converge) and mastered at Silver Sonya by TJ Lipple (Aloha). The band plans on touring the U.S. & Europe extensively in 2008 to support the record.

yep - wir wollen eine film tour machen (eventl. mit band) zum gerade erschienen TOWNCRAFT MOVIE (vielleicht erinnert ihr euch noch an File13 und die ganze Little Rock scene?)

Hat wer lust? Wir checken gerade wieviel leute interesse haben und dann kann man die länge der tour usw festlegen. Soll im Frühjahr 2008 passieren.

"In the late 80s and early 90s a vibrant underground music scene emerged in Little Rock. Unlike other towns, Little Rock's scene was composed almost entirely of kids. 14-18 year-olds were booking their own shows, starting record labels, opening record stores and playing with large national acts. This is the final FUNERAL DINER recording that came out as a limited CD for the JAPAN tour this spring. Funeral Diner get back to their roots. The songs on this EP may not be as epic as the material on The Underdark but for the first time Funeral Diner have created some new sounds to this band that are fresh to the ears. 5 songs w/ wonderful melodies on the A side and a beautiful etching on the B-side. interview w/ robert (adagio830, bis aufs messer & zann)

The 2 vinyl kings of Germany. Robert and Nikita are involved in the hc scene through multiple projects: label, bands, mailorder, etc... I though it would be a fun and interesting idea to put those two together and get different perspectives on the same things. Music, and being your own boss.

Hi Robert! Could you tell us your name, location, and age ?

Robert: I'm Robert and I'm 28 years old. My headquarter is in Berlin/ Germany.
Nikita: Nikita, 31 years old, Cologne, Germany

Having been part of the scene for quite some time, you had to have a hc/punk record which started it all. What was the first record you've bought ?

Robert: It's maybe boring and lame - but it has been the Minor Threat out of step LP and the GRAY MATTER food for thought LP.
Nikita: Well, i am not sure anymore, my first HC CD was RYKERS "brother against brother", a german HC band on lost and found :), when i first started to buy vinyl, i think the first record was JAWBREAKER - unfun LP.

For most folks who run a distro, it's the result of starting a label. Can you tell us about the beginning of the label ? What made you decide to do it ?

Robert: I started the distro around in 1997 when I moved out from my parents place and my friend Benni Serious released the PEACE OF MIND LP w/ some other dudes ... so I helped him w/ selling them in my town at shows. It got more and more - mostly just friends releases and fanzines. Then another friend asked me to help w/ releasing the COLE QUINTET LP ... so the label got started ... It has been really exciting and then I started trading and so on ... yeah.
Nikita: I started the label in 1998 to release the first yage 7" and kept releasing stuff by friends and people i knew which music i enjoyed. As most of the distribution went through trading, i started a small mailorder as well and sold stuff at shows, this is how it started. The motivation to start a label was a result of wanting to express myself and share the music and ideas which i found important with the rest of the world.

Nikita, in the meantime, you stopped the label or put it on hold at least. What was the reason behind that ?

Nikita: The label is on hold since 2004 as i was less and less excited by bands, at least not as much to want to put out their records, plus the records the sales got worse and worse and i just did not feel like i can carry it anymore on the financial side. I can imagine though to release something again, but i am not sure when it will be, i just want it to keep it spontaneous, so if a band blows me a way and would like to do a record, i'd be up to that, but it needs to happen still : )

You guys are some busy dudes... label, mailorder, tour booker, etc... and recently you opened a shop. Seems a bit much for one person. Do you handle it all by yourself, or do you actually have employees ?

Robert: I'm got lucky and found a partner w/ Stefan Vendetta ... We know each other for ages and somehow the idea came up w/ opening the store together after I tried to find places in Leipzig for a while. Yeah I'm glad we are two persons since its sometimes tons of work ...
Nikita: I used to get a lot of help from Elena, my partner, but she got busier and busier with the university so i kept on doing stuff by myself. it's hard to keep the balance from time to time, but i can not imagine to have someone working for me, firstly for money reasons and secondly cause i like to have control over things and have weird approach to some stuff which i want to keep, so i am not an easy person to work with :)

How were the responses from the local scene, your neighbourhood, etc.. towards the shop ? Do you get a lot of folks visiting the place ?

Robert: When we started the shop last year some other recordstores have been really pissed - like they put posters all around our store and had a "street team" etc etc etc ... I mean some of them found out that our store is much different then their locations - but I think they still have the impression hardcore is hardcore if you know what i mean ... whatever. The kids in town seem to like us and our neighbours too :-) We have local artists here showing their stuff, readings, try to help local bands w/ selling their stuff, do some shows etc ... and since Berlin is a tourist town a lot of people from other cities/countries come over and have a cup of coffee or a cola w/ us ... Yep. So we can be just thankful for the support from all the people.
Nikita: The responses have been pretty sparse. We had a great opening last november, but after that it's been going on a pretty low level. It seems that people buy less and less records and Cologne has already several really good record stores, so it's hard to compete. So mostly i work here in the store office and do the mailorder stuff and booking from here.i sell enough records to pay the rent in the store, but that's it already. i am not sure what the reason for the lacking support is, but it seems there are several factors involved here.

Did you ever through the course of your life, think about doing something else than being involved with music ?

Robert: I tried to became a teacher and I really had the plan to teach - but since the music (specially the band) "stole" so much time I didn't took the university too serious ... so after a while I recognized that music will be the thing I enjoy the most. I mean I'm involved since 1994 and it has been always a big (maybe the biggest part) of my life. I got socialized throught the music etc - so I think I will be a part of it for the rest of my life. Hahahaha - I mean I could be worse then that. We will see in the next 10 years. Hahahaha
Nikita: Well, to be honest i could not have imagined that still a couple of months ago. But my perspective changed a bit. I've been doing the whole punk-related stuff for a long time now and it has been a great time. But i feel that i am loosing touch with something that could be called a "scene" or a "community", a lot of recent bands and releases do not grab me anymore, be it punk/hc/screamo or anything related so i feel like i have less and less relation to the music i am selling and lack motivation lately. It's getting harder and harder to get excited over stuff, so if the whole thing turns out to be just another job, i'll stop doing it in the near future, as it's not something i want to do. So, to answer your question, yes, i can imagine to do different stuff than music related things, but still, music will remain one of the most important things in my life and i do not want to ruin my relationship to it by becoming it a commodity and routine. Plus there is a financial issue as well, i' ve been broke for at least 5 years straight, spending the last cent to get new records in stock and keep things moving. A couple of months ago i needed to get a part-time job again which makes the whole situation more stressfull, so if it stays like this, i am pretty sure that i will have to reduce or probably stop my music activities pretty soon as i do not think that i can keep the balance for a longer time.

You've just been to japan with Zann, how was the tour ?

The tour has been great. It has been our second time and we kinda know what to expect. It was much fun. Of course there have been still problems w/ vegan food and its still a totally different mentality. But I would say that we always would go back there. Birushanah & their friends did their best to organize a kick ass tour and since Funeral Diner came w/ us it has been even better.

And Nikita, you used to play in Yage, but the band isn't active anymore. Do you miss playing music, or is there already a new band we (read: i) don't know about ?

There have been several projects since Yage broke up, but none of them evolved to something serious and at the moment i can not imagine to play in a band anymore. Although i miss touring and playing live very much. But having tried to start something new and failed again and again for various reasons made me a bit frustrated about playing music at the moment. Maybe i still need to meet the right people and things will take off again or maybe i'll do some stuff on my own, who knows :)

Where do you see yourself in 5 years ? I mean, in what direction can things go ? You're already doing most of the things imaginable concerning DIY music. Bigger shop ? Bigger Mailorder ? ...?

Robert: I hope we will be still here and not get killed by MP3s. we will have evem more grey hair, get bitter and grumpy, loosing teeth while drinking too much coffee and tell you "how good it has been back in the days". hahaha - I hope I will be still excited about music like I have been in the last years. We are satisfied w/ the size of the store - so I hope we can stay here. If we grow I wouldn't have a problem w/ it - but if it stays like it is - I'm more then Happy. SO THANX SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
Nikita: Well, i hate making plans. I really do not know where i will be in the next 5 years. That's an interesting thing about life, you never know how the future looks like, even if you try to lay it out. I really do not care about having a bigger shop, mailorder, etc., i just want to have an enjoyable life with some time for things i love and want to do, i want to see as many places as possible and experience as much as possible, otherwise it's pretty open.
